2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 to pace 96th Indianapolis 500.
Today Chevrolet announced that a 2013 Corvette ZR1 will pace this year’s Indianapolis 500, marking the 23rd time that a Chevy has paced the race and the 11th time the Corvette has performed the duty. With 638 horsepower from its supercharged 6.2-liter V8, the Corvette ZR1 will be the most powerful production machine to serve as the race’s pace car.
Helping to celebrate six decades of production, the 2013 Corvette ZR1 pace car mimics the design cues of the 60th anniversary package that debuted earlier this year with Arctic White exterior paint and a full-length racing stripe in Pearl Silver Blue. Inside is a Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior with suede accents.
Look for the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 during the 96th running of the Indianapolis 500, scheduled to start at 12:00 pm ET on Sunday, May 27th.

Corvette ZR1

Adhered to the Hamilton Hall dorm wall at Wright State University is a glossy poster of a jet-black sports car. It hangs low over an unmade bed, its corner blemished with a slight tear from an errantly placed thumbtack during orientation week.
A young engineering undergraduate, sitting at a desk just a few feet away, is staring directly at the poster. Instead of reviewing for an upcoming exam, his eyes remain fixated on the vehicle’s sleek bodywork, ominous quad exhaust pipes and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes. Locked in a trance, the student daydreams about what it would be like to drive the sinister-looking monster.

Unbeknown to that 19-year-old scholar, and thousands of miles from Wright State University, Autoblog holds the key to the vehicle pictured on that very poster. It is the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. With a 638-horsepower supercharged V8 mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a top speed of 205 miles per hour, it is the most powerful production car in General Motors’ history.

The ZR1 has been upgraded and enhanced for 2012, so what is it like to drive America’s premier sports car on public roads? Can the beast be reasonably tamed? Be pleased to learn that this evil brute is nearly

Autoblog is no stranger to the ZR1. We drove it to Hell and back in May of 2009, and at Spring Mountain Raceway last May. As the ZR1 enters its fourth year of production, Chevrolet has treated its flagship to a host of small enhancements inside and out, all of which are designed to improve the coupe’s comfort, performance and value.

Last year, the Corvette ZR1 was delivered with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. With a “maximum performance summer” classification (treadwear rating of 220), the well-respected rubber delivered impressive handling. For 2012, Chevrolet is cranking things up several notches by offering the optional High-Performance package (PDE ZR1) featuring new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tires. The “track and competition” classified compound (with a treadwear rating of just 80!) is optimized for warm, dry conditions to increase cornering and handling capability. They are “… essentially street-legal versions of a racing tire,” says the automaker. The insanely wide tires (285/30R19 and 335/25R20) come wrapped around all-new staggered-size alloy wheels that are each about five pounds lighter than last year’s 20-spoke wheel.

Inside the lightly revised two-person cabin, the steering wheel has been enhanced with model-specific badges, the center console and armrests further padded and there is now contrasting stitching (red, blue or yellow) offered with the custom leather-wrapped interior. Chevrolet has also directed some much-needed attention to the seats, which have been upgraded with larger bolsters on the back and side cushion areas. To help keep occupants in place, there are also new faux microfiber suede seat inserts. Lastly, the Bose audio system has been reconfigured with nine speakers (it had seven last year) and the sound has been re-tuned to better match the cabin’s acoustics.

The engine remains untouched, but the ZR1′s standard close-ratio manual gearbox has been tweaked for improved fuel economy. In a nutshell, fifth and six gears are now taller. According to Chevrolet, it should now deliver an additional two mpg on the highway cycle to earn an EPA estimated 14 mpg city / 21 mpg highway – an obvious exercise to pacify the Feds…

When it first came on the scene, the ZR1 didn’t carry a six-digit price tag. These days, a standard 2012 Chevrolet ZR1 starts with a base price of $111,600. However, the black car in our driveway was fitted with $17,435 worth of options. These included the 3ZR trim, which raises the base price to $122,600, the PDE ZR1 High-Performance package ($1,495) and the Chevrolet Centennial Special Edition package ($4,950). The latter includes the Carbon Flash Metallic exterior paint over full Ebony leather upholstery, Satin Black Cup-style wheels with red calipers, red accent stitching on the seats and steering wheel, a leather-wrapped instrument panel and doors with red accent stitching, special interior and exterior badging and Satin Black exterior graphics. Our final price was $130,010, including destination and freight. Steep, but not outrageous given the performance.

Even while stationary, the black ZR1 is striking in the flesh. While those who don’t know Vettes sadly won’t be able to tell the difference between it and its lesser brethren costing half as much, the ominous looking coupe has substantial stage presence. In this particular Darth Vader color scheme, it looks downright wicked.

We had the opportunity to take the ZR1 around the corner for a quick errand within minutes of its arrival. Without so much as a quick walk-around, we swung open the door and dropped into place. The green start/stop rocker switch is an oddity in a world of red push-to-start buttons, but it fired up the V8 without hesitation. As we carefully backed out of the driveway, the protruding front carbon-fiber splitter unexpectedly dragged over the sidewalk. Ouch. It would be the first of many countless encounters the splitter would have with the pavement despite our unwavering caution.

There wasn’t much of an opportunity during those first few minutes to open it up, but we did spin the analog tachometer well around its dial on the surface streets (first gear is good for more than 65 mph, so shifting is theoretically optional). After less than 10 minutes behind the wheel, our initial impression was that the ZR1 was crazy fast, but it was also a very quiet supercar – much too quiet, which was both frustrating and baffling.

Minutes later, we were online for some assistance. It came quickly. Ben Wojdyla (Associate Auto Editor at Popular Mechanics) suggested pulling the Exhaust Flap fuse. What is that you ask? It seems that Chevrolet, in a move to appease the EPA’s sound limits on motor vehicles, electronically plugs part of the rear silencer on the ZR1 (and the Z06) to keep noise levels to a minimum most of the time. The result is that the ZR1 sounds like a Silverado pickup unless driven at wide-open throttle. Since it is our firm belief that sports cars should always sound at least as aggressive as they appear, Ben’s advice was heeded and the offending 10 amp fuse was gently removed from its location in the passenger footwell. The process was accomplished cleanly and entirely by hand in about 45 seconds.

Chevrolet Corvette Review

Often referred to as America’s only true sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette is one of the world’s best known and longest-running nameplates.  Oddly, it had a rather humble beginning, starting life back in 1953 with a straight-6 engine and a two-speed automatic transmission. The first few years saw the fiberglass-bodied two-seater from Chevrolet earn praise for its handling but criticism for its relatively tame performance.  (At the time, it was soundly outgunned by a variety of European sports cars in terms of performance.)
Thankfully, a V8 engine option debuted in 1955, and by the late ’50s, the Chevy Corvette could hit 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. The intervening decades have seen the Corvette pass through multiple generations. Each decade has brought its own Corvette theme, including the muscle-bound ’60s, the highly stylized ’70s and the electronically aided ’80s. More recently, the Chevrolet Corvette has improved enough in the refinement department that many finally consider it worthy to compete against the world’s best.

Unbridled power and outrageous sound – that’s what accompanies each exhaust system we store for you on our digital shelves. Manufactured from the premium materials using the latest technologies, they all are ready to complete the image of your vehicle and give you instant horsepower and torque gains. After an Chevy exhaust system is installed, your vehicle will roar like a line and run like a cheetah. Have doubts? Read over 10 exhaust systems reviews with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, and choose the product that will satisfy your needs.

2012 Chevrolet Corvette.

New 2012 Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype – Trackside. GM’s new Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype looks like an immediate championship contender.

A confluence of eras and anniversaries will mark the 2012 edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona, but for sports car fans, the greatest anticipation comes from what lies ahead.
Fifty years after Daytona held its first major endurance race and 10 years after the launch of the Daytona Prototype category, Chevrolet will send the Corvette name back into action among the prototype ranks. General Motors has used production-based and tube-frame versions of the Corvette chassis in everything from the SCCA Trans-Am series to its current ALMS GT program throughout the marque’s long history, but sports prototype competition—under the Corvette banner or with other GM brands—has been much less consistent.
John Greenwood’s patriotic Corvettes helped to blur the lines between IMSA’s Grand Touring category and what would soon emerge with the Grand Touring Prototype class, but the first bespoke Corvette prototype racer materialized in 1985 as GM, race-car constructor Lola and NASCAR entrant Rick Hendrick came together to produce the Corvette GTP.
The fast but fragile twin-turbo V-6 Corvette was shelved by the end of the 1988 season with 12 poles and two wins to its credit, and after a brief hiatus, GM tasked Bill and Bob Riley and its partners at Pratt & Miller Engineering to deliver the revolutionary Chevy Intrepid GTP for its prototype return in 1991.
While the naturally aspirated Intrepid generated staggering cornering speeds, its overall race results were rather pedestrian. Compared to the Corvette GTP, its success was halved, taking six poles and one win before the program was axed in late 1992.

2011 Chevrolet Corvette GS

2011 Chevrolet Corvette GS. That is, you plunk a big old American V-8 inside a sports car, give the suspension lots of massaging over the years, and you end up with a first-rate sports machine that’s “still crazy after all these years.”
It has been some time since a Corvette had appeared in this space, but Chevrolet GM  +0.51%     stepped up with a “Supersonic Blue” GS coupe. Friends and strangers would  stop me and ask, “How do you like the Corvette?” I would just smile, and they got the word. And many knew that in its upscale models, the ‘Vette can hold its own with some of the greatest performance cars in the world.
Not that the test car was any slouch. Zero to 60 in fewer than 4.5 seconds, about a one G on skidpad tests, and to the century mark in 4.5 seconds or so. A 376 cubic-inch, 436-horsepower V-8 with 428 pound-feet of torque at 4,600 rpm produces those results. Mash your right foot to the floor on a long, straight stretch and you’re shoved back into the upholstery, just as you thought you’d be.
Twists in road are no problem with the optional ($1,695) “Magnetic Selective Ride Control” and the fun factor is only enhanced by the excellent six-speed manual transmission. The optional ($1,195) “Dual Mode Exhaust” system produced blood pressure/testosterone-building sounds that keep Corvette customers coming back for more as the years roll by. I highly recommend it. Automotive filters are essential parts for your vehicle because they keep safe all the crucial systems required for the correct performance of the car. Filters contain Chevy air filter, oil filter, fuel filter and some models also have salon filter that is important as well. Clean air, oil and fuel is a key for the automobile’s long life because all forcing mechanisms stay intact and workable. Contact our Air Filter experts toll free at 1-800-505-3274.

Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Capable tires are one of the simplest, most cost-effective performance enhancements that can be made to a car. Even a supercar. To put it one way, you wouldn’t want to pair a set of R-compound gumballs to a Corvette Z06 unless you’re looking for a pissing contest with Sir Isaac Newton.
So of course, that’s exactly what Chevy did. We were recently lent a 2012 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 3ZR Centennial Edition, equipped with the Z07 Ultimate Performance Package. What does all that mean? The 3ZR designates the highest normal trim package, including a premium Bose stereo, heated leather sport seats with adjustable lumbar support and bolsters, and a special interior package that covers much of the cabin in leather. The Centennial Edition option adds plenty of references to Chevrolet’s 100th birthday — carbon-fiber-look decals can be found on the B-pillars, and special logos are placed on the wheel centers , steering wheel and chevy custom gauges.

2011 Chevrolet Corvette

The Chevrolet Corvette is a classic car that has been admired for decades. The Corvette is undergoing a redesign, and many expect the next generation of the Corvette to reach consumers in the 2011 model year. The Corvette’s design is seen by many reviews as evolving rather than being revolutionary.

Specifications.
This is what we know at this point about the specifications of the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette:
Pricing: Car pricing has not been released yet, but in the current economy, we can expect the prices to stay down. Prices for the base model shouldn’t rise too much above the current MSRP of $48,595.
Fuel economy: The current fuel economy of 16 mpg city and 26 mpg highway should carry over into the new model year. Engine: 6.2-Liter, 450 horsepower. High performance models are likely to be available.
Acceleration: The current coupe can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds. The 2011 model, expected to have a lighter frame, may have a faster time.
Car safety features: Driver, passenger and side impact air bags, OnStar, stability and traction control, antilock brakes, fog lamps, and a tire pressure monitor are expected to come standard.
Suspension: sport-tuned suspension.
Warranty: three year, 36,000 mile basic warranty; five year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty; 6 year, 100,000 mile corrosion warranty; 5 year, 100,000 mile roadside assistance warranty.
Exterior Features. The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette is expected to be available in three different body styles: a coupe, coupe with a removable roof panel, and convertible. The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette is expected to have a long hood, low roofline, and LED headlights. Heated exterior mirrors, aluminum wheels, fog lamps, and daytime running lights are expected to be standard. The top on convertible models will be capable of lowering in around 18 seconds.
Interior Features. The interior of the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette will seat two individuals. The Corvette is expected to offer enough trunk space to carry two golf bags, which is more than many of the vehicles in its class. The Corvette is expected to come with XM radio with a CD player and mp3 compatibility and an auxiliary audio input. Other interior features on the base model include automatic, dual zone climate control, power windows, leather seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Upgraded trims should come with Bluetooth connectivitiy, seat memory functions, premium sound system, and heated seats. Chevy navigation system, rear spoiler, and CD changer are expected to be available as options.
